We have known Emmy since she was a little girl, so when her mom messaged me to ask about her senior pictures, it took me a second! There’s no way that Emmy needs senior photos already!!!
But alas, I am getting older and people are growing up on me. lol. So, we talked about her session, a few things that she had in mind and we had a plan. We were ready to go to Billings!
The day of the shoot, it was rainy- it started out rainy, and it stayed. All. Day. Occasionally, there would be a small break… but within a few minutes?
Rain again.
Then, right before we were ready to start our session with Emmy, the rain stopped!
Miraculously, we were able to get out of the car, get her drums set up and start her session on a roll… and then the rain came back.
We sheltered the drums, sheltered ourselves, and waited under some pine trees for the rain to *hopefully* pass.
It did not.
As the rain got harder, it started to become obvious that we were not going to be able to go back out on the rimrocks or in the field.
Now, the rimrocks of Billings, Montana feature trees that are growing out of the sheer rock, so some of them are pretty scraggly and thin- there is not a lot of substance to them.
Thankfully though, we found ONE tree in the location that offered protection. So you know what we did? We shot the tar out of that one location.
My absolute favorite thing about this day was Emmy’s sweet personality, manner, and laugh.
Was she planning on having her entire senior session photographed under one pine tree?
Uh, no.
But just look at these pictures! Her sweet, fun, loving self shines through in all of them, regardless of the circumstance!
What a beautiful quality that shows in her, to take something that is completely unexpected and not just roll with it, but to be happy and excited and sweet while doing it!
That is a quality that will take her far in life and that many others will find beautiful as well. It’s something that I myself need to work on, so Emmy is a great example for me just as I know that she will continue to be a shining example to others who know her!
We are so happy that we got to do senior pictures for her, and even if it wasn’t what we were expecting, we are thrilled with how they turned out!
